ITEM DESCRIPTION

WWII US Navy Signal Pistol Mark 5 Flare Gun, R.F. Sedgeley Inc., 1942, Original.  Serial Number 242692-A-2.  No FFL Required.

6-5/8" round alloy barrel with dark bore.  The frame and trigger are the same alloy material.  the top of the barrel is marked SIGNAL PISTOL MARK 5 R.F. Sedgeley Inc. 1942.  the right side of the frame is numbered 242692-A-2.   The grip and back of the pistol are one piece and are molded black Bakelite.  The grips have a diamond shaped checkered area in the middle, both marked USN in a circle.  there are some scuffs and scratches overall from use and handling, but no cracks or chips.  The pistol seems to be in good working order.

Some sources say this pistol fires a 12 Gauge flare cartridge and other sources say it fires a 10 Gauge flare cartridge, but the bore is much larger than 10 Gauge and measures 22mm.

Nice piece of early WWII history for any collection.  Condition Very Good Plus.
